Who is behind LIN WASTE

Hello! I am Tamay Jeta, the founder and owner of LIN WASTE. 19 years young, born and raised in Berlin. I am currently studying agricultural sciences at Humboldt University of Berlin, because I am passionately interested in ecological and innovative agricultural use.

Why I founded LIN WASTE

I cannot stand the waste that we humans leave on our planet. This is due to the thoughtless consumption of many products, often single-use products and mostly made of plastic. Driven by a fast-paced society that has been conditioned to obtain everything always and immediately, we have reached a situation that is absolutely not healthy for us – and certainly not for our planet. This rapid consumption also doesn't affect us negatively because we have become masters at losing sight of our trash. Or rather: displacing waste almost through an automated process into the wild – into our nature. We find single-use products on our streets, in our forests, in our lakes, and oceans.

I love spending time in nature, that's where I feel most comfortable. But it spoils my mood when I discover all the trash lying around or floating in the water. Where is the appreciation for these places that do us so much good and help us to lead a healthy life? It's terrible to know that we have already reached a point where microplastics are now entering our bodies through food intake.

Does it really have to be plastic? Do we really need everything as a single-use product? Do we always have to satisfy our needs immediately? Does consumption always have to come at the expense of our environment and poorer developing countries?

With LIN WASTE, I wanted to make my personal contribution to changing the world positively with the means available to me. I am also keen to embark on a new path as an entrepreneur – more environmentally conscious, community-oriented, and fair.

Where I source my linen remnants

I was inspired by my father. He is a little dreamer of a peaceful and environmentally conscious society. When he founded his small bedding label in 2023, he asked himself what he could do with his linen remnants. He was fascinated by the idea of extending the useful life as long as possible in the sense of a circular economy. Many great ideas were buzzing in his head – you can believe me.

I was inspired by this self-determined life, by entrepreneurship, and by the chance to contribute to making the world a little better in this way. One evening, as we sat by the lake and I told him about my dreams in the near and medium term, we immediately agreed, and I was overjoyed. I get to try things out and gain experience in what makes a community-oriented entrepreneur.

The idea was born! With LIN WASTE, I founded a company that produces small household helpers from rescued linen remnants – in the spirit of a circular economy, sustainably made from 100% organic linen, and produced locally in Berlin.
